Full Race Rules
The following rules govern the Montane Winter Spine Challenger North & MRT Challenge North 2027. These rules must be followed at all times during the event, both on the course and at each checkpoint.
Due to the potential for adverse or extreme weather conditions, you are responsible for your own safety on the trail and at all checkpoints. You must be in good enough physical condition to complete the race in your chosen category within the allotted time and possess the necessary skills to navigate effectively and manage emergency situations in mountainous terrain during the winter.
In addition to accepting the Race Rules and Terms & Conditions of entry, it is required that you digitally sign/agree to the participant waiver and complete the medical questionnaire prior to the start of the race. By joining the race, you accept the Race Rules and Terms & Conditions of entry.
- You must be aged 21 or above.
- Spine Challenger North & MRT Challenge North athletes have 108 hours to complete the course. Athletes must observe any advised cut-off times.
- All athletes must depart Langdon Beck CP within 27 hours, or they will be withdrawn.
- All athletes must depart Alston CP within 50 hours, or they will be withdrawn.
- All athletes must depart Bellingham CP within 76 hours, or they will be withdrawn.
- All athletes must depart our Monitoring Location at Byrness within 86 hours, or they will be withdrawn.
- Athletes must arrive in CHECKPOINTS at least 30 minutes before cut-offs to allow time for welfare assessments, checkpoint admin, and kit checks. Failure to meet the arrival or cut-off times will result in the athlete being withdrawn from the race.
- Monitoring Locations such as Dufton and Byrness are subject to a 30-minute maximum indoor stay. Athletes must arrive at these locations at least 5 minutes before the cut-off to allow time for welfare assessments. Failure to meet the arrival or cut-off times will result in the athlete being withdrawn from the race.
- At Hut 1 and Hut 2 on the last section between Byrness and Kirk Yetholm in the Cheviots, you are only allowed a maximum in-hut stay of 2 hours before you must move on, unless the medic has given an extension or the SST deem it unsafe to continue.
